back to the classroom

As of last week, I retuned to the English classroom full time! I'm really excited about working with students again and being able to try out all the technology I've been promoting for the past two years in my own classroom. Since it's a mid-year transition, I'm going to be playing catch up for awhile and won't have much time to blog. I do hope to come back and start posting ideas soon.
Wish me luck. I'm going to need it!

High School Football Goes High Tech

This summer Jeff Guerette, WHS history teacher and football coach, showed me a resource he is using with the team that is so cool I had to share it.
www.hudl.com is web based coaching software that allows coaches to up upload video of games and practices and annotate the video with play by play analysis using on screen notes, text comments, and audio commentary. Players have individual accounts and can log in and watch the coaches videos anytime to review their performance, study plays, or preview their upcoming opponents play.
In previous years, Coach Guerrette used to burn individual DVDs for his players so they could review after each game. Now they can watch the game, and his commentary, from anywhere they have an internet connection. Practice cancelled due to bad weather? No Problem! The coaches recorded video for students to watch. Coaches can check and see when and how often their players are using the site to make sure everyone is doing their "homework".
Hudl is a powerful asset that extends practice far beyond the field.

Some thoughts to start the year...
